Villagers are one of the earliest Mobs to be introduced in Minecraft. These Harmless mobs were added before the official launch in 2011, and Mojang has been updating them since then.
Just like us, They wake up, complete their daily work and go to sleep! Since the developers have programmed them that way.
Every villager has different jobs however, some don’t have jobs at all and they are referred to as “Nitwits” in Minecraft.

How many Villager Jobs are there in Minecraft?
Currently, there are 13 Villager Jobs available in Minecraft. However, there are two more types of the villager in which one is “Unemployed” and the other one is “Nitwits”.
In short, the Unemployed can be hired for a Job but Nitwits are lazy guys and do not work at all and are basically pointless to interact with.
The rest 13 are Armorer, Butcher, Cartographer, Cleric, Farmer, Fisherman, Leatherworker, Fletcher, Librarian, Mason/Stone Mason, Shepherd, Toolsmith, and Weaponsmith.
Minecraft Villagers Jobs Explained

> Armourer: As the name says, The Armourer are the villagers that trade Iron, chains, and armor.
> Butcher: Butchers are basically food mine, you can buy Meat and berries from them if you are out of food!
> Cartographer: Cartographers are the ones from which you can trade maps, compasses, banners, and patterns. You can Trade a treasure map and can go on a treasure hunt!
> Cleric: They are the magical villagers that trade emerald with potions, Ender pearl, Redstone, and other enchantments ingredients.
> Farmer: They are basically the one who grows Crops and if you are out of food, you can just go and buy it from them.
> Fisherman: Fisherman are the one that sells fish and that’s not all, You can also get an enchanted Fishing rod if your trading level is high.
> Fletcher: Fletcher are the bow-arrow experts, they sell Bow’s, arrows (tipped one as well) along with some flint too.
> Leatherworker: Leatherworkers are the ones that sells all leather items, if you want to give your horse a Leather armor he is the one you need.
> Librarian: He is the enchantment king, he sells Enchanted books and name tags from which you can make your tools more powerful.
> Mason: If you need polished stones for your house, they are the ones you’ll need to trade with!
> Shepherd: Shepherd are the ones that sells paintings, shears, wools, beds, and dyes. Well, they basically sells decoration items.
> Toolsmith: They are basically the ones that you’ll need to interact first, They trade bells, harvesting tools (e.g. hoe, axe), and minerals.
> Weaponsmith: The last but not the least is Weaponsmith. You can buy swords and axes made from Diamonds or iron. You can also get an enchanted one if you’re lucky enough).

You can give an unemployed villager a Job by placing a Job Block around him. However, Nitwits will not claim it, you know they are lazy as a sloth.
Minecraft Villagers Trade Levels

If you need to get the highest loot in cheap then you’ll need to unlock the highest trade levels, by default there are 5 trade levels that you can work through, and the higher you go, the best item you’ll get:
- Novice
- Apprentice
- Journeyman
- Expert
- Master
You can check the level of the Minecraft villager by the color of the badge that they wear. Novice wears Stone-coloured, iron-colored for Apprentice, The gold one for Journeyman, emerald for Expert and the last Master wears a Diamond one.
